Both spouses consulting with one divorce settlement mediator and other neutral experts where necessary obviate the need for two sets of lawyers and advocates, each with a separate team of experts. The parties in the mediation process thus receive the same advice but incur significantly less than half the costs insofar as the objective mediator and his/her advisors are objectively focused on achieving common ground and consensus, as opposed to the one-upmanship and jockeying for position, inherent in litigation. The more quickly the matter becomes settled, the less money is spent on legal and related fees which are essentially time based.
